KUCHING: The annual Telaga Air Festival is making its return with two new activities to boot. The Fibre Boat Race and Silat Performance Competition are among the newest additions to the line-up of activities this year. Its organising chairman Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) councillor Rabian Kipli revealed that the activities this year would offer cash prizes totalling RM14,000 including hampers.

“The Telaga Air Festival is our activity with the community which has been held every year for the last 10 years,” he said in a press conference at MPP office here yesterday.

“This year it will be held on Nov 23 and 24 but the activities will start earlier on Nov 21.”

Rabian said there would be a total of 15 activities, each tailored for different age groups.

“We have the Telaga Air Nature Challenge where there will be three activities, the first one is a 22km cycling, 2.5km run and a 3km
kayaking.

“Then we also have the fishing competition, which will be held at the riverbank of Telaga Air Waterfront.”

Other activities include futsal competition, sepak takraw, colouring, dressing up competition, poco-poco, Nopeng, shellout cooking competition and making fish Umai. Rabian disclosed that a food bazaar would be held, including booths manned by government and private agencies to disseminate information and services to the people.

“We obtained a good response from the private sector, this will benefit the community and expose them to the services offered by the agencies.”

Also present at the press conference were MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, municipal secretary Elizabeth Loh and other councillors.
