Message From Padawan Municipal Council's Chairman

Welcome to Padawan Municipal Council’s website. Padawan Municipal Council's (Majlis Perbandaran Padawan in Bahasa Malaysia or in short MPP) was formed in 1956 and commenced operation in 1957. The Council was then known as the Kuching Rural District Council (KRDC). Forty years later, KRDC was elevated to a Municipal Council. MPP has developed but there still is a lot to be done. The main objective of the Council is to enhance the standard of living of the people by providing efficient municipal services leveraging on community participation.

MPP’s area of jurisdiction is at the peripheral of the Kuching City Councils in Sarawak. The residents will expect the municipal services in MPP area to be at par with that of the City Councils. The services of MPP are often benchmarked against that of the neighbouring Kuching City Councils. Serving the Padawan Municipality with a big area of jurisdiction, which is three times the size of Kuching City is challenging. Nevertheless, as the Chairman of MPP together with the Deputy Chairman, Councillors and staff of MPP, we shall strive to deliver quality municipal services.

On the other hand, the strength of MPP is the land size which covers an area of 984.34 sq. kilometres. MPP’s area has the potential for housing, commercial and industrial development which can complement the growth and development of Kuching City. I welcome all entrepreneurs and investors to MPP and I can assure you that MPP shall provide the necessary assistance.

The other assets of MPP are the many places of interests for local and international tourists. MPP is unique from the Kuching City in that we have rural areas easily accessible from Kuching City. We have in MPP, the only Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in Sarawak at Semenggok Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre at Semenggok, Bidayuh Long House at Kpg Annah Rais, Matang Wildlife Sanctuary, Kpg Telega Air and Trombol Beach. All of these tourist spots are within an hour to an hour and half drive from Kuching City. I welcome all visitors to MPP when they are in Kuching as there is always a place of interest for you to visit.

I welcome constructive feedback from the public. Feedbacks and complaints can be made through the MPP Hotline (whatsapp only 013-802 5566), Talikhidmat (082-555999), by calling MPP (082-615566) or through this website.

MPP shall work closely with the public and the communities so that they are involved and kept informed on the decisions and development in MPP. The MPP’s website is one of the many avenues to communicate with the residents in MPP. I hope this website is informative to the public and enable you to know MPP better. Thank you.

Cr. Tan Kai

Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council
