KUCHING (July 9): Two mass anti-rabies vaccination campaigns will be held within the jurisdiction of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) this month to enhance prevention and control of the deadly disease.

Initiated by MPP, the first campaign is scheduled to take place at SJK Chung Hua No.7, Matang on July 18, followed by SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 carpark on July 25. Both events will run from 9am to 3pm.

Held in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak, the upcoming campaigns will also provide dog licensing and microchipping services.

MPP reminded pet owners that their dogs must be healthy, not pregnant, and at least three months old prior to receive the jab.

The council advised owners to bring along their MyKad and their dog’s vaccination card (if any), adding that an MPP assessment bill is required for dog licensing.

“Pet owners who have not yet registered their dogs or had them vaccinated against rabies must grab this opportunity to complete the necessary procedures.

“They should also have their dogs microchipped for enhanced dog management and identification,” MPP said.

The council further reminded all pet owners that they are required to register and vaccinate their dogs against rabies under the current legal framework.

MPP hoped that every pet owner would play their part to ensure that Sarawak can become rabies-free.

“Everyone must comply with the rules and regulations to help curb the spread of rabies, ultimately protecting the health and safety of all pets and the community,” MPP added.
