Lai showing Yap the vicinity of the Seventh Mile Basketball Mini Stadium. KUCHING (April 17): Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap champions youth development, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to empower younger generations and community development through his rural transformation project (RTP) programme. Accompanied by officers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), he visited the 7th Mile Basketball Mini Stadium here today to conduct a detailed discussion to finalise the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for Phase 2 of upgrading the mini stadium with an allocation of RM300,000, funded under the RTP. He noted that the BOQ will serve as a blueprint for transparent and efficient project execution, ensuring that the upgrades will meet community needs while adhering to quality standards. Furthermore, Yap and the MPP officers inspected the existing infrastructure and reviewed plans for its Phase 2 improvements during the visit, which include construction of two new changing rooms for competing teams, new parking spaces, and better amenities for players and spectators. As a passionate advocate for sports and youth engagement, Yap has remained dedicated to providing an encouraging environment for the youths by sponsoring sports competitions as well as supporting educational workshops and recreational facilities. “By upgrading this mini stadium, we are investing in our youths’ physical well-being and providing them with a safe, modern space to hone their talents and build lifelong values,” he said via a press statement today. He further emphasised the importance of sports, particularly basketball, in fostering healthy competition, teamwork, and active living among young people. “Basketball is more than just a game – it is a platform for nurturing discipline, resilience, and camaraderie,” he expressed. This initiative stands as a testament to Yap’s commitment to prioritising youth-centric programmes in Kota Sentosa, empowering the younger generations and promoting better living conditions for their growth. “Our youths are the future leaders of Kota Sentosa. It is our duty to provide them with opportunities to thrive, both on and off the court,” said the assemblyman. The mini stadium upgrade aligns with his pledge to utilise the RTP funding for impactful, sustainable projects to elevate community living standards. “Healthy youths create a vibrant community,” he stated. Yap said he believes that creating a space that allows the youth to blossom is imperative; hence, he will pursue every initiative that enriches their lives. Also present during the visit was Penghulu Lai Boon Khee.

Ibrahim (centre) presents a bicycle to a lucky draw winner. His wife Datin Noor Akmar Hamdan is seen at third right. KUCHING (April 20): The futsal court in Kampung Sungai Maong is among the recently approved upgrading projects aimed at benefitting the local community, said Dato Ibrahim Baki. The Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and Petros) stated that a sum of RM285,000 has been allocated for this project. “This futsal court is already in good condition; however, we will be upgrading it. Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will be the implementing agency,” he said at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Zone 4 Aidilfitri gathering held at Kampung Sungai Maong futsal court here yesterday. Ibrahim, who is Satok assemblyman, said the community hall and culverts in Kampung Segedup will also undergo upgrades. According to him, there have been public requests for a community hall to be built in Kampung Sungai Maong. He said he is in favour of this proposal but noted that, for the time being, the fustal court could serve as a hall. However, he acknowledged the challenge of finding a suitable land for the construction of the proposed community hall. “If we can find the land, I will help build that community hall,” he said. For Kampung Segedup, Ibrahim revealed that nearly half a million ringgit was approved last month to upgrade the village’s facilities. “Dewan Haji Kamaruddin in Kampung Segedup which is the community hall, will be upgraded. At the same time, we are also upgrading the culverts in the area. There is a lot of work to be done and MPP will be the implementing agency,” he said. He added that available funds would be used to further improve the facilities in both villages. “I have just received a letter from the government for us to put forward requests for projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP). “Perhaps one project we can utilise the allocation for is to build a community hall in Kampung Sungai Maong, provided there is a land. “For Kampung Segedup, political secretary to the Premier, Abdul Samat Gany will be discussing with community leaders what else we can provide (in terms of facilities) to the village,” added Ibrahim.
