SMA committee members pay a courtesy call on Awang Tengah to invite him as the guest of honour for the Sarawak Trade Fair’s opening ceremony. – Photo from SMA KUCHING (Nov 18): The Sarawak Manufacturers’ Association’s (SMA) Sarawak Trade Fair will be held at the Ang Cheng Ho Multipurpose Hall in Batu Kawa from Dec 6-8. According to a statement, the event will run from 9am-9pm and is supported by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (Mintred) and the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), and hopes to bring together top industry players, innovators and businesses from Malaysia. The trade fair will host over 70 exhibitors from diverse sectors, including building materials, food and beverage, technology, manufacturing and finance. Federal and state agencies will also showcase resources for SMEs and Sarawak entrepreneurs, highlighting innovative products, services and solutions for shaping the future of Sarawak. Additionally, several keynote speakers, including representatives from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation and the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia, as well as banking experts, will share insights on market trends, incentives, sustainable quality practices and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programmes. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is slated to open the trade fair on Dec 6 while Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian is expected as the guest of honour for the closing ceremony on Dec 8. “SMA was formed since 1963 and with 61 years of history and over 200 members throughout Sarawak, we are the representative and bridge between policymakers and industry players. “In view of this, we see the need to organise the Sarawak Trade Fair to boost Sarawak business investment and public attention,” it said. It added through the fair, it hopes to create an environment that fosters collaboration and advances the business landscape. “We believe the Sarawak Trade Fair will empower businesses to seize new opportunities and respond to the dynamic demands of today’s global market,” it said. Meanwhile, MPP chairman Tan Kai said the Padawan district comprises over 80,000 premises, of which 91 per cent are residential, with commercial and industrial premises making up the remaining nine per cent. “By supporting the trade fair organised by SMA at Batu Kawa, it can boost and promote Padawan into a more industrial and business-oriented suburb and increase employment opportunities,” he added. There were over 70 exhibitors, mainly local manufacturers displaying and promoting their products. The STF 2024 is a vital platform for networking, creating opportunities and fostering a spirit of community amongst the local manufacturers. Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of Sarawak’s economy manufacturing products to boost the economy and creating employment opportunities The Sarawak Trade Fair 2024 attracted a crowd of around 8,000 over the 3-days trade fair. Spring Cleaning In Preparation For The Upcoming Christmas, New Year Eve and Chinese New Year 2025 Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will carry out a Spring Cleaning in preparation for the upcoming Christmas and New Year Eve festival from 20th December 2024 to 3rd January 2025 and Chinese New Year (CNY) from 22nd January 2025 to 5th February 2025. MPP would also like to remind residents who are busy preparing for the festivities to dispose their waste responsibly. The public is urged to keep their neighbourhood areas clean while any extra waste should be packed and disposed off properly into the additional bins or Roll-On-Roll-Off (RoRo) Containers provided for the bulky waste disposals which are available for use at some of these areas as follows:
